the Inspector say if the Consul was not satisfied he could see

Mr Badeley. The Acting Consul would not go away and Inspector

Gauld told him very quietly you had beeter go away and see Mr

Badeley tomorrow. As the Acting Consul would not go the

Inspector beckoned to me and said "show the gentleman to the

door* I went towards the Acting Consul and touched him on the

shoulder and said "you had better go" He was not inclined to

go but did so eventually.

21st March 1903.

Having read the depositions of Inspector Baker, Lau Min,

Tang Wen Chan, I.P.C. 508, and P.C. Floyd to Mr. Reau, Mr. Reau

stated as follows:-

I deny that I struck the first blow. The European const-

able released me from the Indian constable. He placed his hand on my shoulder and said you are under arrest. He did not pull

me by the collar but he pushed me on the back of the neck.

When I reached the top of the steps leading into D'Aguilar

Street. What I complain is that I was arrested.

Confronted with Tang Wen Chan and Lau Min:-

M. Reau points out that Lau Min stated that the walking

stick was broken with the violence of the blow which was struck,

whereas now he states that the stick was broken in the struggle and denies positively that he struck the first blow. Lau Min

and Tang Wen Chan declare that it was the Consul who struck

the first blow with his stick.
